I am familiar with them because my previous local gaming store was predominately a wargaming store, but I didn't know they also did fortresses and fortification stuff.

Always interested in reading these a bit more, but the prices are always a little offputting.

I'm a DBA wargamer (as well as RPG geek), and I love me my Osprey books. As you said, they're perfect rainy day browsing fodder, and contain more great plothooks and raw fluff than an entire shelf full of D&D supplements.

They're easily worth the cover price - or even better, do what I did and tour the second-hand bookstores. There's always a box full of 'em stuck under a table somewhere.

I have a self full of Osprey books as I am also a big historical gamer. They make great sources, but they also make great color inspirations when you are picking colors to paint figures or terrain for any game, even if you are painting figures of a totally different period or for fantasy you can flip through the books and find color combinations that look sharp and steal them.
