Gaming Accessories Nominated for an Origins Award 2008

May 03, 2008 | | Comments 0

I noticed that Origins posted the list of nominees for various Origin Awards categories. Most of them are the usual suspects, books, miniatures and CCGs. One category struck me as interesting, “Game Support.” Mostly because I did not recognize several of the items. My curiousity piqued, I did some research. I thought someone else might be interested, so I will repost the links and images I found.

Full Discosure: I do not receive any benefit for clicks or sales from these companies.

Game support is the category for gaming aids. This can include anything from maps and counters to miniature buildings for tabletop gaming. Presented in no particular order, here are the nominees.

Dungeon Life: Bendy Walls

Sold by Z-Man Games , these are sets of connected plastic walls for a tabletop RPG. Looks interesting, but I would need to see it in person first. I am concerned about the hinge quality and durability. My games are rough on miniatures. Here is a picture.

Gamemastery Flip Mat: Tavern

Paizo publishes this flip mat . I have one of their other flip mat products and am happy with it.

Crystalline Counters: Three Sages Games

I am not sure how one would use these in a game, but they look cool. They are also dirt cheap at $5.00 per pack.

Hollow Earth Expedition GM Screen: Exile Game Studio

I cannot see the inside, but the cover art looks nice.

Dr. Wizard’s Patented Elevation Indicator: Stratus Artworks

Fascinating little item, I would love to see how it works in a real game. Seems like a better way to track flight elevation than stacked d6.

Call Of Cthulhu Dice Set: Q-Workshop

These are absolutely beautiful dice. If I wasn’t already happy with a set of metal dice , these would be on my “to buy” list. The Elder Sign is a nice touch. Sadly, the site says they are sold out in all three colors.

If anyone has any experience with any of the above products, please post in the comments section. The Bendy-Dungeon walls and the elevation tracker are of particular interest to me.
