Poll: Do You Use a Nook, Kindle or an Ipad at Your Game Table?
Technology permeates every aspect of our lives and gaming is no exception. Laptops are a staple at many game tables, but recent advances have created a new class of computer: the tablet. Tablet, at least for today’s post” refers to any of the relatively low-cost e-readers and tablet computers that seem to multiply with every passing day. I am curious if the greater gaming community embraced these devices for gaming.
To keep things simple, I created my poll with the three industry leaders in the tablet/e-book reader market, Barnes and Noble’s Nook, Amazon’s Kindle Wireless Reading Device and the Apple Ipad.
Let your voice be heard and vote! I will tally the votes next week.

No option for “No”?
I don’t own a Star Trek PADD as yet, but I’ve recently put my old decommissioned PC by the gamers’ table and use it to play music, show images and browse documents. Bit bulky, but it’s cool to have a GM Nerve Center.
I’m still too nervous to take my iPad out of the house. I can see myself using it a lot though.
For the Truth and Justice campaign I’m running, it’ll be useful because I’ll be able to search the PDF without dragging my laptop along. The players can have my print out of the PDF, which doesn’t have an index. Most my the game PDFs will be getting up loaded as well – you never know when you need a one shot.
I imagine if I was playing D&D4e, I’d be looking to use my iPad to access all the online subscription stuff.
I use my iPad for all my games. It has all my PDFs on it, and displays them beautifully, particularly ones like the Dresden Files. It’s also perfect for accessing my googledocs based game notes and doing a quick google or wikipedia search on the fly. I prefer to use real dice, but MachDice and Dicenomicon are great apps.
I picked up a USB keyboard for it, too, for game notes and it all fits nicely in a zip portfolio for easy transportation. It’s been a great portable gamer library
er, bluetooth keyboard… no USB support on iPad
I would really like to know how the book readers are being used at the gaming table. I own a Kindle and I don’t use it at the table because I really haven’t found any gaming content that is appropriate for the device. These readers are optimized for text and don’t work too well with PDF (the biggest reason being that they are too large plus they display a full page at a time). I take my netbook to the table, but not my Kindle.
Well the Kindle, Nook, Sony reader all would be pretty poor PDF viewers due to their lack of graphics capability. The iPad or a laptop are the best options for that, and I love my iPad for just that reason.
Exactly what games are on the kindle and nook? There are a handful of games, but the Nook and Kindle are for READING, not gaming. I don’t think most gamers really even consider one of them for gaming. Really an odd type of poll, considering the purpose of a nook or kindle.
Not sure why they are trying to be compared to the Ipad in that department when it is a no brainer that more people would use the Ipad for gaming.
The question should be: Which makes a better ereader?
nevermind, should have paid more attention to what type of website this is.
