Review: RPG Character Illustrations.com–Behold the Face of Trask!

RPG Character Illustrations, creators of role-playing game character portraits kindly offered me a chance to try their service. I quickly accepted and here is my review of the process from start to finish.  I visited  rpgcharacterillustrations.com and followed the site’s prompts. The first step is to enter information about your character; race, age, height, weapons, equipment, etc.  into a form.  Thinking that too much information is better than too little for an artist, I entered relatively deep descriptions and one special request. Trask has an unusual power source; cheese. Tyromancy uses cheese and cheese curds to foretell the future, so I needed a cheese theme for my portrait.  I included this special request in the notes section of the form and clicked onward.

Choosing an artistic style and artist is the next step.  Options include, black and white, basic color and full color, so I chose the “full color” option. Prices range from $15.00 for the black and white and up to $60.00  for the full color.  I chose the full color option and clicked submit.  A few hours later I received an inquiry clarify some aspects of my submission and offering a suggestion. Specifically, the rpgcharacterillustrations.com representative suggested I use a specific kind of knife as my primary weapon…a cheese knife of course! I happily accepted.

Two days pass….

I received the image below.

These images are the pose and facial ideas from the artist. Choosing one of each would give the artist some direction and make sure they were on the right track.  I had difficulty choosing because I really liked the “B” and “C” poses. The idea of Trask after a mighty battle contemplating his wheel of cheese appealed to me. It was a melancholy image to my mind. That said, I went with pose “B” because it would show off the weaponry and cheese in a more heroic light.  Choices made, I responded to the artist and two days pass.

The illustration speaks for itself. I loved it!  It looks amazing and integrates all of my requests, including the well-placed wheel of cheese.  The image is 5 megabytes (compressed here to speed page loading) and 3629 × 4000 in dimension. Resolution is high enough to guarantee a nice print out, should you want a hard copy.

I am extremely pleased with rpgcharacterillustrations.com work on this character illustration and will use them in the future for other character portraits. Total time for the project from submission to completion was 6 days. I cannot complain at all about the turn around time.  I highly recommend rpgcharacterillustrations.com if you are in the market for a character portrait.

While I love the concept, and the picture’s good, I have to ask … do you have kids? 🙂 Just with three big kids, there’s very little way I’d have the spare spending cash to lash out on a service like that – and if I did have it, it’d probably go into one of several other things.

(There’s a reason I kitbash tanks out of rubber window wedges … parental poverty!)

Btw, your Captcha is still one of the best random name generators I’ve seen 😀 “Love Goidons”, the infamous Red Courtesan of the Silken Curtains …

    Hey Worktroll,

I bet having three kids running around puts a dent in the gaming budget. We try hard to provide a product for every gamer. Our most affordable illustrations start at $15 if that helps at all.

Man, let’s see your rubber window wedge tank! I remember playing CarWars with erasers because we’d mangled all the paper punch outs.

Keep an eye on our site, or follow us on facebook. We’ll be having contests for free illustrations here in the near future.

The Captcha just gave me Vincen Topinard, a wealthy dandy around the court; but a deadly swordsman no doubt.
