“Blood of Heroes” aka “Salute of the Jugger” Inspires a Real League

“Blood of Heroes” or “Salute of the Jugger” is one of my favorite film guilty pleasures. The plot involves a post-apocalyptic team playing a soccer-like sport  with weapons and scoring consists of driving a dog skull on to a stake. It was great fun as an action movie and the ending was strangely affecting, at least to me. Anyway, the Australians take film appreciation to a new level with an actual league based on “Jugging.”  Looks like they use boffer weapons and plastic chains. I must say that this looks like  great fun. The Jugging league  apparently had a booth at Gen Con Australia 2009. Did any of my Australian readers attend and see this booth? Did they play a game on-site? I would like to know how it went.  Regardless, here is their site.

Australian Jugger League.

How random, yet wonderful. I saw this movie about 15 years ago while a freshman in college, and although it is complete cheese, it’s the good kind of cheese. And Rutger Hauer makes anything 1000% better.

Damn! If I’d known about it, I would’ve given it a look!
