Trask Invades Phoenix Comicon for Gaming Action

I am not normally one to attend comic/pop culture conventions, but one of my regular gaming group notified me that there is substantial gaming at Phoenix Comicon this year. With this information I acquired media credentials and decided to drop by this Saturday.  Other than my usual reporting duties, I may sneak in a game or two.  The “Iron GM” competition in particular caught my eye.  GMs receive three “secret” plot ingredients that must appear in their adventure and have only one hour to get the adventure together and run it.  Players rate the GMs and the winner competes in the national championship at Gen Con 2011.  I am half tempted to try it out. I extemporize well.

Beyond gaming, several authors of note, including John Scalzi and Max Brooks are in attendance. Scalzi’s seminar in particular is high on my list. I am a huge fan of “Old Man’s War.” Brooks wrote “World War Z,” arguably the best zombie book ever.  Time permitting I want to do both seminars, but that seems unlikely.

I will take some pictures and give you a full report next week.
