Gen Con Hotel Sign-Up Goes Smoothly

February 17, 2009 | | Comments 0

Haaldaar and I successfully secured our room for Gen Con 2009 at the Marriott. A bit more expensive than some of the other hotels, but I like Marriots and it was nearly on top of the vendor area.

Two items of note: Haaldaar got a bad sign-up link that pointed to the 2008 registration site. Not sure if this error was widespread, but mine was ok and I got my room exactly at 10:00 MST.

Secondly, during his research Haaldaar discovered that the RCA Dome is undergoing renovations. Not sure what this means about accessiblity to the convention, but it something worth noting. Perhaps someone local can clue in the rest of the world about the contruction’s impact.

I heard horror stories from previous attendess about the hotel sign-ups, but it went very well for me.  Kudos to Gen Con for a smooth opening day.

FYI, the close hotels (ie Marriot, Westin) sold out within 20 minutes. There are still openings at more distant hotels.

Good luck and see you at Gen Con 2009!

This year went much, much, MUCH better than previous years. I was able to secure the room I wanted, not in the hotel I wanted but I was just too slow ;), in a few short minutes. Kudos to GenCon, Inc! :D

Uh yeah, there is no RCA dome anymore. It’s all going to be a convention center expansion. However, for this year, there should be no major differences than last year.

This has been discussed extensively on the Gen Con forums.

I’m staying at the Westin! I was all stressed out this morning about getting a room and wow was it a breeze.

Looking forward to this trip! Now just to keep squirrelling money away to pay for it all :)
