Gaming Paper Is Kickstarting a New Product–8.5 x 11 24 lb Reams of Grid Gaming Paper-Arrived!

Update 2: I have my first bundle and it is as advertised.  Double-sided 8.5 x11 inch paper with one inch grid squares on both sides. I will probably use each sheet as an individual room to bring out as required. Might also be handy for the PC’s favorite inn.

Update: The project is fully  funded and the Gaming Paper Singles are on the way to the printers. I will do a write-up 0n them once I receive my batch. According to Gaming Paper, the paper  will be available at Gen Con 2010 in their booth.

Gaming Paper, producers of rolls of grid and hex paper for game mapping seeks Kickstart investors for their new product, 8.5 x 11 24 lb reams of Gaming Paper. Essentially it is 250 sheets of white paper with a blue grid pre-printed on them. For those not familiar with Kickstart, it allows you to pledge some amount of money towards a project. If the project meets its pledge goal (in this case $2500 by July 09, 08:47pm EDT), Kickstart bills your credit card. If they do not make the pledge threshold by the stated date, no money changes hands.

Gaming Paper is also throwing in some rewards for investors.  Here is the list.

The widget below displays the current status of the project. I am going to throw in a few bucks to get a ream of the stuff. I think it will have real utility.

I think the rolls that Gaming Paper sells are cool but I can’t for the life of me see what the point of buying preprinted gridded paper is considering the easy availability of printers and/or photocopiers: For only a couple of dollars you could make it yourself – it’s even cheaper if you print it on the back of used paper (we generate piles of it every day at work that’s free for the taking) which ought to work fine since it’s really only meant for one shot use anyways.

I think the cost of the 1″ grid paper will end up being cheaper per page than trying to print your own, once you factor in the cost of ink/toner and wear and tear on your printer. It depends on how much they want to charge for a 250 sheet ream.

this gaming paper is also really high quality, wrinkle and water resistant. or well, that is what the marketing video claimed about the rolls. i’m not sure about the single sheets, but i think it’d be safe to assume the same about them.
